Six Pakistani Soldiers Killed in Attack Near Afghanistan Border

Six Pakistani soldiers were killed after gunmen targeted a security checkpoint in Kurram district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, near the Afghan border, Khaama Press reported. No group has claimed responsibility, but the attack underscores continuing instability in Pakistan’s northwest frontier.

The incident occurs amid ongoing efforts by Pakistan and Afghanistan to maintain a fragile ceasefire following deadly border clashes in October that disrupted civilian life and trade. Islamabad has accused militants operating from Afghan territory of orchestrating attacks inside Pakistan, claims rejected by Kabul, which says Pakistan’s internal security challenges are not its responsibility.

In response to the rising tensions, Pakistan’s army chief, General Asim Munir, warned Kabul to choose between maintaining relations with Islamabad or supporting the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), emphasizing that militant safe havens across the border would no longer be tolerated. He also cautioned India, stating that Pakistan would respond swiftly to any military provocation.

Analysts say the attack and strong rhetoric reflect a deteriorating security environment in the region. Without enhanced cooperation on counterterrorism and border management, experts warn that violence is likely to persist, placing civilians and security personnel at continued risk.
