Pakistan will host a three-day global conference on space science and technology starting Tuesday in Islamabad, according to state media, Arab News reported. The International Conference on Applications of Space Science and Technology (ICAST-2025), scheduled for Nov. 18–20, is jointly organized by the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and the Institute of Space Technology (IST). This year’s theme, “Space for Sustainable Development,” highlights the growing use of space-based tools to address international challenges.
State-run APP said the event is expected to be among the region’s largest space gatherings, drawing more than 2,000 participants, including over 70 foreign delegates from 25 countries across Asia, Europe, Africa, North America and Oceania. Senior representatives from global space agencies, scientists, researchers, astronauts, policymakers and industry experts are set to attend.
The program includes panel discussions, plenary sessions, masterclasses and technical presentations on emerging fields such as satellite systems, climate and environmental monitoring, geospatial intelligence and artificial intelligence applications. A major technology exhibition and poster showcase will feature new innovations and research projects from around the world.
APP reported that the conference will also host a “Meet the Astronauts Forum,” bringing together astronauts from Türkiye, Mongolia and the United States to speak with students about their missions and inspire interest in space careers.
Pakistan is expected to sign several cooperation agreements with institutions from Kazakhstan, Tunisia, Senegal, Bangladesh and Iraq to strengthen collaboration in research, capacity building and knowledge exchange. The event follows Pakistan’s recent launch of its first hyperspectral satellite, HS-1, and growing international engagement in space initiatives.
