Death Toll Rises to 320 in Pakistan Monsoon Floods

The death toll from heavy monsoon rains and flash floods in northern Pakistan has risen to more than 320 people as of Saturday, The Guardian reported. The country’s disaster authority reported that the majority of the deaths, 307, were recorded in the mountainous Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The floods, triggered by a massive cloudburst, have also resulted in deaths in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and the northern Gilgit-Baltistan region. Officials state that most victims were killed in flash floods and from collapsing houses.

Rescue workers are facing significant challenges in their relief efforts due to landslides and washed-out roads. The meteorological department has issued a heavy rain alert for the region, urging residents to take precautionary measures.
