Human Rights Watch accuses the UAE of arbitrarily targeting Pakistani Shia expatriates

Human Rights Watch confirmed that the UAE authorities have “forcibly disappeared about four Pakistani men since October 2020, and deported about six others,” while reporting that the authorities have repeatedly targeted Shia residents.
The organization stated in its report that the Emirati authorities “released and deported the six immediately in October and November 2020, after they were also subjected to enforced disappearance and incommunicado detention between 3 weeks and 5 months.”
It added that all 10 men are residents of the Emirates, and most of them lived in the country, explaining that “they worked there for many years as managers, sales employees, CEOs of small companies, workers and drivers, and among them was a man who has lived and worked there for more than 40 years, and another was born and raised In the UAE”.
Human Rights Watch continued saying, “The authorities did not file any charges against any of the six released men, and deported them without any opportunity for appeal.”
