Pakistan sees Tragic Incidents in Karachi and Bajaur
—————————–
On the eve of Independence Day in Karachi, three people were killed and over 100 were injured due to aerial firing, Dawn E-paper reported. A 7-year-old girl was fatally shot in the head by a stray bullet while watching fireworks. According to police surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed, 109 people with bullet injuries were brought to major hospitals, with three in critical condition. In separate incidents, a 35-year-old man in Korangi and a 70-year-old man near Kalri were also killed by stray bullets. Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the girl’s death.
In the Bajaur district, a mother and her two children were killed when a mortar struck their home during a security operation against the Pakistani Taliban, Arab News reported. Two other people were wounded in a separate mortar attack. Residents protested the deaths and demanded an investigation. The military offensive began after tribal elders were unable to remove militants. The operation has displaced approximately 25,000 families, or 100,000 people, many of whom are now in government shelters or staying with relatives. This is the second major military operation in Bajaur since 2009. The Pakistani Taliban (TTP), which is allied with the Afghan Taliban, operates from sanctuaries in Afghanistan and crosses the border to carry out attacks.
