55,000 Displaced from Pakistan’s Bajaur During Military Operation, KP Assembly Told

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly was informed that a military offensive in the Bajaur tribal district has displaced approximately 55,000 people, Dawn E-Paper reported. The issue was raised by opposition lawmaker Nisar Baz of the Awami National Party (ANP) during a session focused on the province’s deteriorating law and order situation.

Baz stated that the displaced individuals are from Mamund tehsil in Bajaur and are facing a severe lack of basic facilities, including food. He also claimed that a suddenly-imposed curfew has left 400,000 residents “hostage,” unable to move to safer areas. The opposition member criticized both the provincial and federal governments for failing to provide adequate assistance, noting that displaced people are currently relying on self-help and local political parties.

Meanwhile, Malik Adeel Iqbal of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) party suggested that such issues should be resolved through the traditional jirga system and negotiations, reiterating his party’s opposition to military operations. The assembly session was ultimately adjourned due to a lack of quorum.
