Pakistan Police Detain 149 Individuals, Including 48 Chinese, in Scam Call Center Bust

Pakistani authorities arrested 149 people, among them 71 foreigners mostly from China, during a raid on a fraudulent call center, Arab News reported citing the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency.

The agency revealed that the operation uncovered a large call center involved in Ponzi schemes and investment fraud, which deceived the public and illegally collected significant amounts of money.

Acting on a tip-off, the police targeted a network based in Faisalabad, an industrial city in eastern Pakistan. The raid took place at the residence of Tasheen Awan, son of the former chairman of the Water and Power Development Authority, a government body.

Among those detained were 78 Pakistanis, 48 Chinese nationals, and individuals from Nigeria, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, and Myanmar. The group included 18 women. All detainees remain in custody.
