Over 11,000 Afghan Migrants Deported from Pakistan in 9-Day Crackdown

Pakistan’s Immigration Department reported that 11,371 Afghan migrants were arrested and deported in a nine-day nationwide operation targeting undocumented migrants, Afghanistan International reported. On Tuesday alone, 3,669 individuals were repatriated through the Torkham border crossing, while over 2,000 voluntarily left Pakistan.
This crackdown reflects Pakistan’s policy to address undocumented migration, with authorities detaining not only asylum seekers but also family members of individuals linked to criminal activities. The government’s plan to expel approximately three million Afghan migrants in 2024 has drawn criticism from international organizations and human rights advocates.
