Pakistan: Terrorists Attack Humanitarian Convoy in Kurram District
A humanitarian convoy heading to Kurram from Tull Cantt was attacked by terrorists, resulting in the death of two security officials, six drivers and two passengers, Dawn Newspaper reported.
According to the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kurram, the convoy, which was the third dispatched from Kurram today, came under rocket fire and gunfire from terrorists, leading to the fatality of one official.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner reported that three vehicles in the convoy were damaged in the attack. In a counter-operation by security forces, six terrorists were killed and ten others were injured.
Previously, the first phase of the third convoy for Kurram had dispatched 35 cargo vehicles carrying medicines, vegetables, fruits, and other food supplies. Heavy contingents of police, Frontier Corps, and security forces were deployed to ensure the convoy’s safety.
In related news, it has been revealed that vegetables arriving in Kurram are being sold at exorbitant prices, with tomatoes priced at 700 rupees and green chilies at 800 rupees per kilogram.
Additionally, helicopter services for transferring patients from Kurram have been suspended for the past ten days, causing severe difficulties for patients.
Dr. Mir Hussain Jan, Medical Superintendent of the District Headquarters Hospital, informed Geo News that the helicopter service for bringing in medicines and transferring patients has been halted for ten days, and a letter has been sent to the district administration regarding this issue.
The Medical Superintendent further stated that a request has been made to the district administration for the transfer of 74 patients, as current conditions do not seem conducive for transferring patients via road.
In this context, the Minister of Religious Affairs for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa claimed that helicopter services for Kurram continue to operate.
