Punjab Muslim Community Receives Land Donation from Sikh Family for Mosque
In a remarkable display of communal unity, a Sikh family in Malerkotla district has donated land for a new mosque to serve the local Muslim community, The Kashmiriyat reported.
Sukhjinder Singh Noni, a former Sarpanch of Umarpura village, and his brother Avninder Singh contributed 5.5 biswas (approximately 0.1375 acres) of land, valued at 700,000 to 800,000 Indian rupees.
Malerkotla, notable for its significant Muslim population post-1947 Partition, has a rich history of Sikh-Muslim solidarity. Sukhjinder Singh highlighted that the Muslim community had been without a mosque, forcing them to travel for prayers.
The mosque’s foundation was laid on January 12 by Punjab’s Shahi Imam, Mohammad Usman Rehman Ludhianvi, who commended the Sikh family’s gesture as a message of love and humanity. Additional support came from local Sikhs, contributing 300,000 Indian rupees to reinforce the spirit of solidarity in the village.
