Escalating Violence in Pakistan: Over 1,600 Lives Lost in 2024 Amid Resurgence of Militancy

A new report reveals that more than 1,600 civilians and security personnel have died in Pakistan due to escalating violence in 2024, VOA revealed.

The Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) in Islamabad highlights that 60% of casualties were civilians, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces being the most affected. The report attributes this resurgence of violence to the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), both designated as international terrorist organizations. Since the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021, attacks have intensified, with 685 security personnel killed this year—the highest toll since 2014.

An army spokesman noted that 383 military personnel were martyred in counterterrorism operations in 2024. In Balochistan alone, approximately 250 fatalities among security forces were documented. The report is based on open-source data and official statements, emphasizing the deteriorating security situation.

Tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban have escalated, with recent cross-border clashes and accusations of Afghan-based groups orchestrating violence. Amid these challenges, Tajikistan’s President met with Pakistan’s ISI chief to discuss regional security and cooperation against terrorism, highlighting the need for strategic partnerships in combating these threats.
