Pakistan: 36 Additional Dengue Patients Confirmed in Rawalpindi
Rawalpindi has reported a spike in dengue cases, with 36 new patients confirmed among 169 suspected cases, bringing the total this season to 342, Dawn reported yesterday.
Currently, 96 patients remain hospitalized, while 241 have been treated, with one death reported. Hospitals are overwhelmed, with 29 patients at Holy Family Hospital and 36 at Benazir Bhutto Hospital.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema noted that recent heavy rainfall contributed to the outbreak, with 13 spells recorded this monsoon. Despite the rise, the number of cases is lower than in previous years, with 338 cases reported on the same date in 2023. The district has initiated a fogging campaign and established mobile clinics to address the situation in affected areas.
