Pakistan Deports More Than 32,000 Afghan Refugees in Past Month
Pakistan has deported over 32,000 Afghan migrants in the past month, with the total number expelled since October 2023 reaching 691,000, Khaama Press reported yesterday.
Between July 21 and August 16, authorities sent back 11,054 children, 9,320 women, and 11,826 men, utilizing 674 vehicles for the operation. This ongoing deportation program targets Afghans without valid residency documents, despite widespread criticism from international organizations.
The forced return of refugees occurs amid a severe humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, characterized by widespread poverty, food shortages, and inadequate basic services. Critics emphasize the risks to the safety and well-being of deported individuals, raising ethical concerns about the treatment of vulnerable populations. As the situation unfolds, calls for a reassessment of Pakistan’s deportation policies continue to grow, highlighting the urgent need for humanitarian support for those affected.
