Nearly 600 killed in suspected militant attacks in Pakistan over last 7 months

Over 580 individuals, including security personnel and civilians, have died in more than 550 suspected militant attacks across Pakistan in the past seven months, Anadolu Agency reported yesterday citing the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies.

According to the article, July alone witnessed 108 fatalities and 71 injuries, with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province experiencing the highest number of attacks—36 incidents resulting in 60 deaths. Balochistan reported 12 attacks, leading to 12 deaths, while Sindh faced five attacks, resulting in six fatalities. Notably, Punjab saw no militant incidents.

The military has intensified operations in response, killing six key commanders of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and 29 suspected terrorists in July. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent announcement of a national counter-terrorism campaign has sparked criticism from local political factions. Islamabad attributes many attacks to Afghan-based TTP militants, a claim Kabul denies.
