Four Pakistanis killed in an attack on a Shiite mosque in Oman have been repatriated and returned to their families, the Associated Press reported yesterday.
The bodies arrived on Pakistan International Airlines flights at Islamabad and Lahore airports, where relatives were present to receive them for burial.
Hundreds of mourners attended the victims’ funerals in their hometowns. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack during a meeting with Oman’s ambassador in Islamabad.
The incident occurred on Monday when gunmen stormed a mosque in Muscat, where worshippers were gathered for special prayers ahead of Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him.
The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack, marking a troubling first for the Sunni extremist group in Oman.
