Pakistan: Tragic School Bus Accident in Swat Leaves 1 Child Dead, 41 Injured

A horrific accident occurred in Swat’s Khwazakhela tehsil when a school bus plunged into a ditch, resulting in the death of one child and leaving 41 others injured, Dawn Newspaper reported yesterday.

According to Rescue 1122 spokesperson Shafiqa Gul, the bus was transporting children home from the Abaseen school located in Khwazakhela. When the bus reached a narrow bridge in the Asala area, the driver lost control and the vehicle crashed into a ditch.

Local residents revealed that the same bus driver had previously been involved in another accident in 2021 that claimed the lives of four children and left 30 injured. They complained that the narrow road and bridge in the Asala area have been the site of multiple accidents, despite repeated requests to the authorities to widen the infrastructure.

District Police Officer Swat Dr. Zahidullah stated that an immediate inquiry has been launched into the incident, and strict action will be taken against the school’s management and the driver.
