Roadside explosion kills 5 soldiers in northwest Pakistan
At least five soldiers were killed in an explosion that struck a security vehicle in the Kurram tribal district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Friday, Anadolu Agency reported yesterday.
The improvised explosive device (IED) blast was the second such incident in less than two weeks in the region bordering Afghanistan.
On June 9th, seven army soldiers were killed in an IED explosion in the Lakki Marwat district of the same province.
Authorities stated that “sanitization of the area is being carried out to eliminate any terrorists present” and that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
While no one has claimed responsibility, Islamabad accuses “Afghanistan-based” militants loyal to the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) of conducting the attacks, a charge Kabul denies.
