Pakistan: Authorities detain two journalists amid continued restrictions on internet, social media
A journalist was detained in Pakistan, the second within a week, while access to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) remained disrupted for a 10th consecutive day, VOA reported.
The crackdown comes amid electoral fraud allegations after parliamentary elections, raising concerns about freedom of speech.
Asad Ali Toor, an independent journalist, was taken into custody by the Federal Investigation Agency for allegedly running a “malicious campaign” against top judges. Another journalist, Imran Riaz Khan, was arrested in Punjab on corruption charges.
X services remain restricted in Pakistan, and the country has experienced multiple internet service interruptions related to the parliamentary elections.
