US aid cuts impact Syrian refugees in Lebanon as milk, diapers become scarce

US aid cuts have severely impacted Syrian refugees in Lebanon, forcing many to go without essentials like milk and diapers, Arab News reported.

Since the funding freeze, UNHCR and the World Food Program (WFP) have reduced aid to vulnerable populations. The WFP cut cash assistance recipients from 830,000 to 660,000 Syrian refugees, while UNHCR reduced support to 206,000 refugees in Lebanon until June. Funding for Lebanon’s refugee programs is only 14% of what’s needed.

With Lebanon’s ongoing economic crisis and limited job opportunities, many refugees face debt, food insecurity, and risky survival choices. Aid agencies warn the situation could worsen without urgent funding restoration.
