UNICEF Condemns Child Deaths in Recent Attacks on Lebanon
UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell has expressed deep concern over the recent killing of children in Lebanon, Anadolu Agency reported yesterday.
Reports indicate that at least five children were killed and several injured in attacks this week. Over the past 11 months, at least 25 children have reportedly died, with more than 200 injured.
Russell stated, “The escalation puts more children at risk of death, injury, and fear.” The situation intensified following an Israeli airstrike on Beirut’s Southern Suburb, which resulted in 37 fatalities, according to the Lebanese health ministry.
This strike followed detonations by Hezbollah, which killed at least 37 individuals, including children, and injured over 3,000. The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has escalated since the outbreak of violence in Gaza, where over 41,300 people, predominantly women and children, have lost their lives since Hamas’s attack on October 7, 2023.
