The Director General of Iranian Railways, Miad Salehi, announced the trial launch of the (Tehran-Karbala-Tehran) weekly train, where train tickets may be obtained for all routes, especially the Ahvaz and Khorramshahr route, starting today.
Regarding his recent meeting with the CEO of the Iraqi Railways, Talib Al-Husseini, about coordinating trips for the Arbaeen Pilgrimage and the completion of the Shalmaja-Basra railway, which is 32 kilometers long, Salehi said in a press statement followed by Shia Waves News Agency: “We met this week and last week with Al-Husseini personally and virtually, and I discussed with him regarding the launch of the Tehran-Karbala train, which extends from Tehran to the Shalamcheh border and the rest of the way in Iraq.”
Referring to the launch of the Karbala train during the Arbaeen days, he added: “The pilgrims will travel from Tehran to Shalamjah by train, then travel 30 kilometers from the latter to Basra in Iraqi territory by bus, and then take the train again from Basra to continue their way to the holy Karbala.”
The Iranian official said, “Since this project will be experimental in the first three months, pilgrims will be sent on this route in the form of convoys, and this convoy is sent through specialized travel agencies.”
