Department of Rituals and Processions in Karbala receive banners of Husseini mourning in Iraqi provinces

The representative offices of the Karbala-based Husseini Rituals and Processions Department received the banners of Husseini mourning in various provinces, in conjunction with the rituals of replacing the banners of the domes of the Holy Shrines of Imam Hussain and his brother Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon them), according to the geographical location of each representative office.

The head of the aforementioned department, Sayed Aqeel al-Yasiri, said: “It is customary on such days that our department hands over 20 banners to its official branches in the Iraqi provinces.”

He added that “the representatives of the department used to raise the banner of mourning and condolence at the beginning of each month of Muharram, specifically on the first night, to announce the beginning of the season of mourning of the holy family of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his pure family).”

It is noteworthy that the ceremony of raising the banners of grief has become a Husseini custom or ritual, which has been traditionally held by believers in most areas inside and outside Iraq, marking the beginning of the Husseini season of grief and sadness.
