Holy Najaf witnesses banner raising ceremony marking beginning of month of mourning, Muharram

The holy city of Najaf witnessed the raising of the Ashura banner in a number of places in the province, marking the beginning of the month of sorrow, Muharram.

A member of the Board of Directors of the Holy Shrine, Hassan al-Jabari, said: “The Ashura banner was raised at the entrance to the holy city of Najaf, near the bridges of the Twentieth Revolution, and another banner in the square in the middle of the old city, and another at Najaf Airport, marking the beginning of the month of sorrows – the holy month of Muharram – the anniversary of the painful martyrdom of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).”

It is noteworthy that the banner-raising ceremony was attended by a large number of social and political figures and heads of Husseini processions in Najaf.
