Iraq’s Transport Ministry Reports Successful Reverse Transport Plan for Arbaeen Pilgrims

The ministry said operational and organizational measures implemented during the past several days helped maintain smooth passenger movement, particularly through trains and buses assigned to transport pilgrims.

According to the ministry, special trains deployed under the reverse transport plan have completed their operations after carrying large numbers of pilgrims. Bus services, however, remain active along designated routes connecting Karbala with Baghdad, Babil and neighboring areas to support the continued return of visitors.

The ministry said the buses are operating on major routes as part of measures aimed at reducing congestion and facilitating the movement of passengers returning from the pilgrimage.

Meanwhile, operations at the Karbala Unified Garage have returned to normal, with staff from the General Company for Private Transport Management continuing to organize vehicle movements and scheduled trips between Karbala and other Iraqi provinces.

The ministry attributed the success of the reverse transport plan to coordination among relevant institutions and extensive field efforts during the Arbaeen season, which helped provide regular and safe transportation services for millions of pilgrims.

The return phase of the Arbaeen pilgrimage represents one of Iraq’s largest annual mass-transport operations, requiring extensive logistical and transportation measures to manage traffic and ease congestion on major roads.
