As the anniversary of Mid-Shaaban and the birth of Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him) approaches, the holy city of Karbala is witnessing extensive security, service, and public preparations alongside the continued arrival of large numbers of pilgrims.
These preparations include coordinated government planning as well as the ongoing movement of pilgrims traveling on foot from various Iraqi provinces toward Karbala to mark the occasion.
Iraq’s Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday that all necessary security and service measures for the Mid-Shaaban pilgrimage in Karbala have been finalized. The ministry said the measures aim to ensure the smooth movement of pilgrims, maintain public security, and preserve stability in the holy city, noting that security and service forces are on full alert.
According to the ministry, special plans have been implemented to manage the expected millions of pilgrims, organize entry and exit routes to Karbala, and secure religious sites, service processions, and pedestrian routes. These plans involve broad coordination among security forces, traffic police, support units, and service agencies to ensure safe and orderly participation in the pilgrimage.
The Karbala governorate also announced that the 14th and 15th of Shaaban will be official holidays to facilitate preparations and accommodate pilgrims, excluding security and service departments to ensure uninterrupted services.
Meanwhile, large groups of pilgrims—particularly from Dhi Qar province—have begun their symbolic journey on foot toward Karbala, reflecting devotion, loyalty, and renewed allegiance, amid organized movement and ongoing security and service support.
