Iraq Proposes Registering Prophet’s Birth and Quran in UNESCO World Heritage
————————————
Iraq’s representative to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has formally proposed that the birth of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) and a file related to the Quran be registered on UNESCO’s World Heritage list, with the aim of preventing acts of desecration against the holy book.
According to the Shia Waves Agency, citing Middle East News, Iraq’s permanent representative to UNESCO in Paris said the proposals were submitted to safeguard religious values and to counter insults and violations directed at the Quran.
The initiatives were presented during a meeting of ambassadors from Islamic countries held at UNESCO headquarters.
The proposal concerning the Quran is intended to address what Iraq described as clear violations of the sanctity of the holy book in some countries, and to promote international recognition and protection of its religious and cultural significance.
