Iraq: 180 Bodies Recovered from Mass Grave in Tal Afar
…………..
Iraq’s Directorate of Mass Graves announced the recovery of 180 complete bodies and 54 human remains from the “Alo Antar” well in Tal Afar, near Mosul. Officials said the victims were executed during the period of control by ISIS, with forensic teams now working to document and identify the remains through medical and genetic analysis.
Tal Afar district mayor Khalil Mohsen Habash confirmed the operation is part of ongoing efforts to uncover mass graves left behind by the group. Human rights advocates stressed that the numbers discovered so far represent only a fraction of the missing, warning that more graves are likely to be found in and around the city.
The “Alo Antar” site is considered one of the largest and most complex mass graves linked to ISIS atrocities in Iraq. Families in Tal Afar say more than a thousand people were executed there a decade ago. The well lies about six kilometers north of the district center along the Ayadiyah road and is among several mass burial sites left in the area after the group’s occupation.
