Baghdad Municipality has announced that over 80% of the city’s Green Belt project has been completed, utilizing automated systems for irrigation to expand green spaces and plant long-living trees suited to the city’s hot climate. Spokesperson Adi Al-Jundail stated that a fully operational water treatment station in Saqlawiya is now processing wastewater for irrigation, reducing reliance on natural water sources amid shortages.

Treated water is stored locally and distributed through a 7-kilometer pipeline to the Al-Dahna area, covering 940 dunams between Mansour and Abu Ghraib districts. The project aims to transform the zone into an urban recreational forest for Baghdad families.

In its first phase, the municipality plans to plant 250,000 trees, leveraging automation to manage irrigation and maintain the greenery efficiently. Officials said the initiative reflects Baghdad’s commitment to sustainable urban development and environmental enhancement.
