Rights Center Condemns Rising Abductions of Shia Citizens in Syria

A Syrian rights group has raised alarm over a surge in kidnappings targeting Shia citizens, warning that the crimes are becoming a persistent humanitarian crisis amid weak security and lack of law enforcement.

The Violations Documentation Center reported that armed gangs are carrying out frequent abductions in Sayyida Zainab, south of Damascus, as well as in Homs and Aleppo, leaving dozens of families uncertain about the fate of their relatives.

The center criticized the silence of media and rights bodies and urged international organizations to act swiftly to uncover victims’ whereabouts and ensure justice for affected families.
