Turkey Reports Large-Scale Return of Syrians
———————————
More than 410,000 Syrians who fled to Turkey during Bashar Assad’s regime have returned to their homeland since his overthrow in December, according to the Turkish government, Arab News reported.

Turkey’s Interior Ministry stated that 411,649 Syrians have returned so far, with the pace increasing recently—around 140,000 returns have been recorded since mid-June by the immigration service.

In June, Filippo Grandi, head of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), noted that 600,000 Syrians had returned home from neighboring countries.

Despite the return movement, Syria has experienced recent outbreaks of violence, challenging the authorities’ capacity to manage inter-religious tensions following Assad’s fall.

Currently, about 2.5 million Syrian refugees remain in Turkey, based on the latest figures published in early August.

Back in 2021, Turkey reported that up to 3.7 million Syrians had sought refuge within its borders.
