New Train Line to Connect Shalamcheh Border to Karbala

The governor of Basra, Asaad al-Eidani, has announced a plan to build a direct train line from the Shalamcheh border crossing to the city of Karbala, Shia Waves Persian reported. The project aims to improve transportation for pilgrims and facilitate trade.

Shalamcheh is considered one of Iraq’s most important border crossings. The plan includes the construction of power lines and water pipes to turn it into a fully integrated hub for commercial exchange and traveler services.

The reconstruction of the crossing is scheduled to begin after the current Arbaeen pilgrimage and is expected to be completed by the next Arbaeen season. The project’s designs are based on the latest standards to solidify Shalamcheh’s position as a key entry point into Iraq.
