…………………..

The Forensic Medicine Department of Iraq’s Ministry of Health announced the successful DNA matching of remains belonging to 22 Yazidi victims of the 2014 genocide carried out by terrorist groups during their control of Nineveh province. This announcement coincides with the eleventh anniversary of the massacre.

This batch marks the eighth round of DNA identifications publicly disclosed. Families of the victims have been contacted to complete necessary procedures before the remains are handed over in Sinjar district. The Forensic Medicine Department will oversee the transfer, while the National Team for Mass Graves, affiliated with the Martyrs Foundation, will conduct the official handover ceremonies in the coming days.

The DNA matching involves complex technical processes comparing genetic material extracted from recovered remains with reference blood samples provided by relatives. Authorities have urged Yazidi families to promptly submit reference samples and cooperate with the national team to help identify missing persons and uncover their fate.
