New Book Unveils Secrets of Ashura Rituals Among Syrian Refugee Shias
—————————–
A new research book, based on fieldwork conducted between 2004 and 2010, has for the first time explored the ritual of “latm” (self-flagellation) among Twelver Shia refugees in Syria.

According to Shia Waves News Agency, citing the Cambridge University Press Journal, this significant work fills a considerable gap in contemporary Shia studies. The book elucidates how religious rituals, including latm, served as a means of devotion, physical and spiritual healing, and a quest for worldly justice among the refugee community.

The research highlights the establishment of religious institutions for Iraqi refugees and pilgrims in Syria, operating under the patronage of the Syrian government.
