Pilgrims Describe Arbaeen Journey as “World’s Greatest Spiritual Trek”
……………….
Thousands of pilgrims from various countries continue to arrive in Iraq through the Munthiriya border crossing in Diyala Province to participate in the Arbaeen pilgrimage. Described by many as an unparalleled spiritual experience, the annual event attracts millions of people from different cultural backgrounds.
Retired Iranian professor Ahmad Safavi praised Iraq’s hospitality, noting that the generosity of local service processions—mawakeb—reflects deep-rooted faith. Former Azerbaijani diplomat Homa Qardaq said he had never witnessed a religious gathering of this scale in his years of service.
Pakistani visitor Jafar Hasni, performing the pilgrimage for the first time, shared an emotional account of being served food by a disabled man, contradicting negative portrayals of Iraq in the media.
According to Ali Ahmad Tahir, head of the Husseini processions in Diyala, over 700,000 pilgrims are expected to enter via Munthiriya, with more than 80 service processions deployed to support their journey to Holy Karbala.
