Renowned Iraqi academic and writer Dr. Mohammed Issa Al-Khaqani passed away on Tuesday at the age of 60, following a distinguished career in academia and cultural engagement across Iraq, the Gulf, and the UK. In his final Facebook post, he wrote: “At the end of the journey, we say: pardon us all.”
Born in 1963, Al-Khaqani held a PhD in comparative literature and taught at the University of Baghdad, University of Bahrain, and the Gulf University, where he lectured on history and Islamic studies. He was also known for his media presence and for founding the Al-Khaqani Cultural Council in Baghdad.
A son of prominent cleric Ayatollah Sheikh Issa Al-Khaqani, he was deeply influenced by scholars Dr. Ali Al-Wardi and Dr. Hussein Ali Mahfoudh. Among his notable works are A Hundred Years with Al-Wardi, Investing Blood, and Behind the Mask: Iran and the U.S. in Documents.
Many bloggers and activists mourned Dr. Al-Khaqani today with heartfelt messages on their platforms, highlighting his rich contributions to both public life and television. They offered sincere condolences to his family over their loss.
