Iraqi security officials have revealed new details about the country’s preparations to safeguard Arbaeen pilgrims, Abna News Agency reported. Lieutenant General Walid Khalifa al-Tamimi, commander of Baghdad Operations, stated on Monday that the security plan includes coordinating and managing pilgrims’ routes to the holy city of Karbala while ensuring their safety.

The plan also covers intelligence monitoring along pilgrimage routes, providing medical and administrative services, organizing and coordinating Moukebs (service stations), and their regular distribution. Implementation will begin on Friday, August 1, with security units entering a state of alert from Monday, August 4. Al-Tamimi added that trucks and bicycles will be restricted to roads away from the pilgrims’ paths.

The Karbala Operations Command announced that, to enhance security, the commando brigade conducted a thorough reconnaissance operation in the western sector, including areas near Lake Razazeh, in coordination with the Special Forces Division. These efforts aim to protect pilgrims arriving in Karbala and secure their routes as part of a comprehensive security plan.

Arbaeen commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him). It is the world’s largest annual pilgrimage, with millions walking to Karbala from across Iraq and neighboring countries.
