Iraq launches International Day of Babylonian Civilization

The Iraqi city of Babylon has launched the International Day of Babylonian Civilization, drawing wide participation from cultural and academic figures, as well as representatives of local, Arab, and international institutions. The three-day event aims to celebrate the rich historical legacy of Babylon and highlight its contributions to human civilization.

Opening day activities included exhibitions of flowers and agricultural products, traditional crafts displays, and cultural contributions in literature, arts, and heritage. The program also announced upcoming conferences focused on archaeology and investment, designed to shed light on Babylon’s tourism and economic potential.

More than 100 organizations from Iraq and abroad are taking part in the event, which serves as a prelude to the 12th Babylon International Festival for Culture and Arts. The celebration underscores both official and grassroots efforts to preserve Babylon’s heritage and promote its cultural identity.

Organizers say the event is intended to revive and honor Babylon’s ancient civilization through a range of cultural, artistic, and academic activities. Discussions throughout the event will explore ways to boost global tourism to Babylon and reinforce its place on the world cultural heritage map.
