Cancer Hospital Set to Open in Mosul

Iraq is preparing to inaugurate a specialized cancer treatment hospital in Mosul, Nineveh province, according to a member of the provincial council, Rudaw reported. Ahmed Dubardani, part of the Nineveh Provincial Council’s health committee, announced that the hospital is in its final stages and is expected to be handed over by the implementing company next month.

The new facility will feature 100 beds and state-of-the-art medical equipment, aiming to alleviate the burden on hospitals in the Kurdistan Region. Dubardani emphasized that the hospital will reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for treatment, which often incurs significant costs.

As cancer rates continue to rise in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, there is a pressing need for more treatment facilities. Currently, Hiwa Hospital in Sulaimani province is the only cancer treatment center available, attracting patients from across Iraq and neighboring regions. Experts attribute the increase in cancer rates to worsening air pollution.
