Iraqi Airstrikes Target 6 ISIS Members in Salahaddin

Iraqi airstrikes in Salahaddin province killed six suspected ISIS members, Rudaw reported today citing the Iraqi army.

The operation, which utilized F-16 aircraft, targeted a terrorist hideout in the al-Aith area and was described as a response to recent attacks on Iraqi forces. This strike follows an ISIS ambush in Kirkuk province that resulted in the deaths of four Iraqi soldiers.

Despite the defeat of ISIS’s territorial claims in 2017, the group remains a security threat in Iraq, particularly in disputed areas where they continue to conduct hit-and-run attacks and bombings.

The Iraqi army has intensified operations against ISIS, with over 100 militants reportedly killed since the start of the year. In August, a joint operation with U.S. forces in Anbar province resulted in the deaths of 16 ISIS fighters, including four leaders.
