Iran-Linked Tensions Disrupt Global Electronics Supply Chain, Raising Concerns Over Raw Material Shortages
————————————–
Escalating tensions involving Iran have begun to significantly disrupt the global electronics supply chain, limiting access to critical raw materials used in the production of advanced technologies, according to recent reporting by Reuters.

Industry sources say the conflict has affected the supply of key materials used in printed circuit boards (PCBs)—essential components in devices such as smartphones, computers, and AI servers. A major disruption followed damage to a petrochemical complex in Saudi Arabia that produces a large share of polyphenylene ether (PPE) resin, a crucial input for electronics manufacturing.

As a result, prices for PCBs have surged by as much as 40% in April 2026, while shortages of related materials such as copper foil and glass fiber have further strained production capacity.

The crisis is also affecting the semiconductor sector. Supply disruptions in the Middle East have tightened availability of helium, a vital resource for chip manufacturing processes, forcing companies to seek alternative sources and driving up costs.

Analysts warn that ongoing instability in key shipping routes and energy markets is compounding the problem, increasing logistics costs and delaying deliveries across global manufacturing networks.
