Global Outcry After Deadly Islamabad Mosque Suicide Bombing Martyrs Dozens of Shia Worshippers

A suicide bombing at the Khadija Tul Kubra Shia mosque in Islamabad during Friday prayers killed at least 31 people and injured 169 others, prompting widespread international condemnation, diplomatic responses, and heightened security actions. The attack — one of the deadliest in the Pakistani capital in years — was claimed by the ISIS affiliate in Pakistan.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the explosion “in the strongest terms,” calling attacks on civilians and places of worship unacceptable and urging that those responsible be “identified and brought to justice.” He extended condolences to victims’ families and reaffirmed UN solidarity with Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts.

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry strongly denounced the “terrorist bombing,” emphasizing rejection of violence against civilians and places of worship and expressing solidarity with Pakistan.

Pakistan’s government, including Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, alleged links involving foreign elements, claiming the attacker had traveled to Afghanistan; those remarks were rejected by Afghanistan, which called the accusations premature and unsupported by evidence and urged constructive cooperation instead.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs condemned the bombing and expressed condolences, but firmly dismissed Pakistan’s allegations of involvement as “baseless” and “pointless,” urging Islamabad to address its own security challenges rather than assign external blame.

Thousands of mourners attended mass funerals under tight security in Islamabad. Pakistani authorities have arrested four suspects, including an alleged mastermind, in connection with the attack and are pursuing further investigations.

Many countries expressed support for Pakistan’s fight against terrorism — with Turkey condemning the mosque attack and pledging solidarity, and China expressing deep shock and support for Pakistan’s stability efforts.

The bombing underscores persistent militant threats in Pakistan and has reinforced calls from governments and international organizations for strengthened counter-terrorism cooperation and protection of vulnerable communities.
