Manitoba is marking October as Islamic Heritage Month (IHM), a time to celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of Muslims to the province’s social, cultural, and economic life, ABNA24 reported. Established in Manitoba’s statutes, the month also aims to foster understanding and address Islamophobia.

To commemorate the occasion, the Esplanade Riel Bridge and the Winnipeg sign at The Forks will be lit in green on October 30, representing growth, harmony, and community spirit. Events across Winnipeg include tributes to Muslim women’s achievements, youth volunteer initiatives, and discussions on the historical impact of Muslim physicians.

Community leaders highlighted that Islamic heritage embodies values of justice, compassion, and solidarity. University of Manitoba students connected the celebration to broader global movements for equality, while the coordinator of Islamic Heritage Month Manitoba, said the initiative seeks to amplify Muslim representation and unity.

She expressed hope that the newly formed committee will expand its impact in coming years. Islamic Heritage Month underscores Manitoba’s dedication to inclusivity, mutual learning, and strengthening bonds among its diverse communities.
