Arbaeen Procession Begins in Northern Nigeria to Commemorate Karbala Tragedy

A group of Muslims, followers of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) launched the annual Arbaeen Hussaini procession in Kano, northern Nigeria, to commemorate the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), his family members, and his companions in the Battle of Karbala.

The procession began on Thursday, July 30, from beneath the Kafar Nasarawa bridge in Kano, with participants arriving from Kano, Potiskum, Azare, Gashua, Jigawa, and other surrounding areas.

Before the start of the march, a press conference was held in the presence of journalists, where Dr. Senusi Abdulkadir explained the objectives and significance of the Arbaeen walk.

Dr. Abdulkadir highlighted the historical dimensions of the Ashura event and discussed the lessons and values of Imam Hussein’s uprising, including the principles of justice, freedom, and resistance against oppression.

Following the press conference, participants moved in organized groups along the Zaria Road toward the Ungwa Oko area, continuing through the Naibawa route toward the Dan Gaoro market.

The Arbaeen procession is held annually in various parts of Nigeria, attracting thousands of Shia Muslims and devotees of Ahl al-Bayt. Inspired by the massive Arbaeen pilgrimage in Iraq, participants use the occasion to reaffirm their commitment to the values associated with the Karbala movement and its message of justice and human dignity.
