COP29 Climate Conference Begins in Baku, Azerbaijan
The 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) is set to commence in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Monday, November 11, Anadolu Agency reported yesterday.
The conference will run until November 22, bringing together global leaders from government, business, and civil society to tackle pressing climate challenges.
With global temperatures reaching unprecedented highs and extreme weather events becoming more frequent, COP29 aims to foster concrete solutions to these escalating issues. A significant focus will be on financing, as trillions of dollars are needed to help countries reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
Established in 1992, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has been the cornerstone of international climate negotiations, leading to key agreements such as the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement. Currently, 198 Parties are involved in annual meetings to address the climate crisis collaboratively.
