Amnesty Int’l calls on Pakistan to stop arbitrary detention, harassment of Afghan refugees
Amnesty International has called on Pakistan’s government to urgently stop its campaigns of arbitrary detention and harassment launched against the Afghan refugees and asylum seekers, who left their country due to Taliban persecution.
The organization said in a statement today, Tuesday, followed by Shia Waves, that, “Its deeply concerning that the situation of Afghan refugees in Pakistan is not receiving due International attention.”
In its statement, Amnesty International added that it had conducted nine new interviews with Afghan refugees, with six who were detained in Pakistan over the last three months.
All the refugees who were interviewed confirmed that they were harassed by Pakistani police and officials.
