UN accuses Taliban of violating rights of Afghans, plunging country into crises

The United Nations adopted a resolution accusing the Taliban terrorist movement of violating the rights of Afghan women and girls, of failing to form a government that represents all nationalities, and of plunging the country into dire economic, humanitarian and social conditions.

The resolution referred to the continuation of violence in the country since the movement took control of Afghanistan in August of last year, the activities of terrorist groups such as Al-Qaeda, ISIS, as well as other foreign terrorist fighters.

Germany’s permanent representative to the United Nations in New York, Ante Linderze, had expressed her hope that the General Assembly, consisting of 193 members, would approve the resolution presented by her country by consensus.

“Since the movement came to power, the country has experienced a massive economic downturn and humanitarian crisis that has left half the population facing critical levels of food insecurity,” Linderze told the General Assembly.
