Pakistan and Iran Return Nearly 6,000 Afghans in One Day
………..
Pakistan and Iran deported or returned nearly 6,000 Afghan migrants on Saturday as large-scale expulsions from neighboring countries continued, Amu reported. Afghanistan’s Taliban-led commission for refugees said about 4,800 Afghans crossed back from Pakistan through the border points of Torkham in Nangarhar, Spin Boldak in Kandahar, and Bahramcha in Helmand provinces.
The majority of returns were recorded at the Torkham crossing, followed by Spin Boldak and Bahramcha. The commission also reported that more than 1,100 Afghans returned from Iran, entering through the Islam Qala crossing in Herat province and the Silk Road crossing in Nimroz. Among them were both families and individual travelers.
Authorities said some returning families were transferred onward to several Afghan provinces, including Kandahar, Kabul, and Herat, with limited financial assistance provided to help cover transport costs.
Pakistan and Iran have increased deportations of Afghan migrants in recent months, a move that has raised concerns among humanitarian organizations. Aid groups warn that the influx of returnees is placing additional pressure on Afghanistan’s fragile economy and already overstretched public services.
