Iran Urges Businesses to Stop Hiring Undocumented Afghan Migrants
………
A senior Iranian official has urged businesses to end the employment of undocumented Afghan migrants, warning that non-compliance is worsening security and economic challenges, Amu TV reported. Mehdi Aghabarari, deputy governor for political, security and social affairs in Semnan province, told a meeting of the province’s foreign nationals commission that unauthorized hiring remains a major concern and that oversight of employers is insufficient.
He called for more coordinated intervention by supervisory bodies and emphasised that managing the situation requires cooperation from trade guilds and business owners. Aghabarari cautioned that placing undocumented workers in sensitive roles fuels public dissatisfaction and heightens security risks.
He said continued violations by some employers are contributing to broader problems. He also called for stronger coordination among police, regulatory agencies and labour departments to improve monitoring, especially in sectors such as agriculture and livestock. Iran has recently increased deportations, returning about 300 Afghan migrants per day, many through forced removals.
