The United Kingdom convened a two-day summit in London to address Afghanistan’s escalating food security challenges, Khaama Press reported. According to the British Embassy in Afghanistan, the gathering—held last week—focused on improving access to food and essential nutrition for vulnerable communities across the country.

During the first day, representatives from the UK Foreign Office, humanitarian experts, and international partners examined the obstacles facing aid delivery and discussed strategies to bolster food assistance. Participants also exchanged best practices aimed at strengthening support systems for populations most affected by food shortages.

The World Food Programme (WFP) underscored its continued efforts to reach Afghan children, noting that an estimated 3.5 million children are currently suffering from severe acute malnutrition. The embassy said the summit builds on earlier UK-UNICEF initiatives that have concentrated on the specific needs of Afghan children amid the country’s deepening humanitarian crisis.

Officials stressed that addressing widespread food insecurity will require a robust and coordinated global response, combining immediate relief with sustainable long-term planning. The UK urged donors and international organizations to expand resources and reinforce interventions, signaling its ongoing commitment to supporting Afghanistan’s most vulnerable populations.
