The United Nations has issued a stark warning about the worsening drought in Afghanistan, saying severe water shortages and rising temperatures are endangering thousands of families and pushing communities into extreme hardship.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), many water sources have dried up, and crop production has collapsed, leaving families—especially mothers—struggling to feed their children.

The UN said it has begun distributing emergency cash assistance to affected households but cautioned that the drought poses a broad threat to food security, public health, and social stability.

Humanitarian agencies, including Mercy Corps, warned that the crisis could trigger widespread hunger, mass displacement, and the collapse of livelihoods if urgent international action is not taken.
